Hawassa Skatepark - Ethiopia Skate

In October/November 2017, we organized a group of local and international volunteers and together constructed Hawassa Skatepark — a free of charge community skatepark 180km south of Addis Ababa.

The skatepark is open everyday from dawn to dusk and hosts regular loaner programs for local youth managed by Hawassa’s own Jimi Karlos.

LOCATION:

Hawassa Skatepark is free of charge and is open every day from sunrise to sunset - located at the Alemura Youth Center near Fura. Feel free to contact us for directions or refer to Google Maps.

VISITING GUIDELINES:

Hawassa Skatepark is located at a public government youth center which is frequented by neighborhood youth and adults for many activities outside the skatepark.

  • No drugs or alcohol in youth center

  • Ask permission before using a camera

  • Be mindful of your things - don’t leave bags unattended

  • Contact skatepark manager before bringing donated materials to the park

  • Have fun and tag/share any skatepark photos with @ethiopiaskate

Keep it rolling:

Every year, Ethiopia Skate collaborates with volunteers to maintain and improve Hawassa Skatepark. This work relies solely on donations from people like you.

Building Hawassa Skatepark (2017):

Hawassa Skatepark was made possible through a successful crowdfunding campaign and the support of 200 donors from 20 different countries. With no access to ready mix concrete, the entire park was hand poured by 15 dedicated volunteers from 5 countries.
